The classic retro toy Etch A Sketch has shot up 200% following a joke by one of the candidates running for President.
It all started when Mitt Romney strategist Eric Fehrnstrom was asked Wednesday about the candidate's politics now versus next fall, and he likened the campaign to an Etch A Sketch: "You can kind of shake it up and we start all over again."
With Romney's opponents seizing at the remark in an attempt to foil his campaign, it looks as though Ohio Art, the makers behind the classic sketching toy, looks to be the first to come out on top.
Ohio Art has sold more than 100 million Etch A Sketches worldwide since its introduction in 1960. The toy, with its familiar grey screen and bright-red frame, with the little white knobs you can draw anything you want inside before giving it a shake to erase the image and start all over again.
Following the analogy, Etch-A-Sketch toy company's stock had nearly tripled by yesterday afternoon and major stores reported a jump in sales.
After learning the stock had risen by 200 percent yesterday, Fehrnstrom Tweeted: "Etch A Sketch stock is up? Psst, I'll mention Mr. Potato Head next. Buy Hasbro."
